BOWLING

Ferns Bowling is back and we hope to see new members every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the community centre. The Ferns Fighters are going very well. They are John Francis, Ray Flick, Johnny McClean and Colm Morris. The Ferns Warriors are Fred Warren, Charlie Christophe­r, Joe Murphy, Pat Nolan and Nancy Hanlon. They are on 20 points. It is a great outing every week for everyone.

SLIABH BUIDHE ROVERS AC

The Sliabh Buidhe Rovers AC Registrati­on night for 2019 will take place Friday, January 18, and AGM will take place afterwards. Registrati­on will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the AGM will take place at 8 p.m. in Ferns Community Centre. Anyone interested in joining the club for 2019 come along on the night to talk to some of our members or for any enquires contact club chairman Luke Kehoe at 087 3222914.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

Ferns and District Active Retirement Associatio­n would like to extend to all of our member best wishes for health and happiness in 2019.

Meetings will resume on Thursday, January 10, in the School Library at 2 p.m. and the programme of having guest speakers, day trips, etc. will continue. New members are always welcome.

Bowls are played every Wednesday in the community centre from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The annual general meeting will be held on February 14. Any query to Colm at 086 3866582.

Third Prize winner of a €50 voucher for Mace Ferns – Tim O’Niell, Ballindagg­in. Fourth prize winner of a €50 voucher for Discount Centre Ferns – Seán Dreelan, c/o Sarah Dreelan. Fifth prize winner of €50 voucher for Bolger’s Ferns – James Tonks. Sixth prize winner of a €50 voucher for the Courtyard Ferns – Kyle Davitt. TABLE QUIZ

Awareness Head to Toe, the national voluntary organisati­on that work on promoting farm safety and mental health awareness among farmers and rural dwellers, will host a table quiz in the Courtyard on Friday, January 11, at 8 p.m. Tables of four may enter. are invited - please confirm to Fr Cosgrave that you are coming so that numbers can be put down for the dinner - if you do not receive an invite please contact Fr Cosgrave and he will sort it out.

GAA CLUB NEWS

Matt Butler won the trailer load of timber in the Monageer-Boolavogue GAA draw held in associatio­n with the national club draw. The second prize, a year’s membership of the Monageer-Boolavogue GAA Gym, was won by Jenny Redmond. A huge hamper, the third prize was won by Aggie McHale who also won the fourth prize, six months membership of the gym.

Another hamper, the fifth prize was won by Cian Moore. The sixth and seventh prizes, dinner-for-two vouchers, went to Gillian Ryan and E Gahan c/o Brian Turner. The eight prize, a club voucher to the value of €30 was won by John Carton and the ninth prize, three months gym membership was won by Yvonne Sweeney. The final prize, two bottles of wine were won by Gillian Ryan.

The club would like to thank all who supported the draw and remind subscriber­s that the National Club Draw will take place in the spring of this year.

CLUB AGM POSTPONED - The club’s AGM, which was due to be held on Friday, December 28, was postponed due the sad death of Teddy Sinnott RIP., Crane, Monageer, the previous day.

LOTTO - The first draw of the New Year for the Monageer-Boolavogue lotto takes place tonight, Tuesday, January 8, at 9.30 p.m. in the club complex in Monageer. The top prize on offer is €5,500 and tickets for the draw, costing only €2, will be available in the club complex immediatel­y before the draw.

MANY THANKS - The club would like to thank all those who supported the annual Liam Cooper memorial cup game on New Year’s Day at 11 a.m. and special thanks to those who participat­ed. Thanks to their generosity, over €1,000 was raised for Wexford Hospice Homecare.
