No blues for hospice as gardaí present cheque
WEXFORD GARDAÍ provided a welcome boost to the coffers of the County Wexford Hospice Homecare when they presented a cheque for €8,500 to them just before the New Year.
Hospice chairman Eamonn Mernagh was on hand to accept the cheque from members of the Gardai in Wexford who, under the guidance of Detective Colm Dunne, organise the yearly Blue Light Ball.
Last year was the fifth year of the event which has raised just under €34,000 for the Wexford charity to date.
County Wexford Hospice Homecare costs approximately €600,000 to run each year and relies largely on public donations to provide their services to the local community. All money raised in Wexford stays in Wexford.
The Blue Light Ball, which is a revival, of sorts, of the old Garda Ball events which were hugely popular in the 1980s, has been a great success, packing in great crowds. This year, over 240 people attended the event which boasted a champagne reception, five-course meal and entertainment from The Ambassadors.
Organiser Detective Garda Dunne, who has recently been nominated for an Outstanding Achievement Award for his fundraising efforts, thanked all of their sponsors, local businesses and everyone who attended the event for their invaluable support.
The 2019 Blue Light Ball will take place on Friday, October 4, in the Talbot Hotel.
