Rosslare ‘important’ to Irish Ferries

-

DESPITE their recent announcement that they are ‘reviewing’ their service between Rosslare and Cherbourg, Irish Ferries’ Managing Director Andrew Sheen has stated that Rosslare Europort remains an important part of their business plans for the future.

Mr Sheen was speaking in a meeting last week with Fine Gael Minister Paul Kehoe, during the course of which the TD expressed his disappointment at the announcement that it was ‘unlikely’ that they would continue to operate their service between Wexford and France. Minister Kehoe, however, welcomed assurances from Mr Sheen that Rosslare remains an integral part of their plans, particularly given its continued service to Pembroke in Wales.

He emphasised the strategic importance of the port to Wexford and the South East as a whole and urged Mr Sheen to consider Rosslare for further routes.

The meeting took place just days after a delegation from Wexford had a meeting with Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc and Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan in Brussels on the topic of the Europort.
