Driver not insured to pull sheep trailer

-

A LEARNER permit holder voided his insurance when he took to the public road in Bunclody pulling a double axle sheep trailer.

Unemployed Patrick Andrew Connors (21) from Pallas East, Clonroche, was intercepted at Carrigduff last April by Garda Sharon Hanlon.

Sitting at the District Court in Gorey, Judge Brian O’Shea learned that Connors was on the road that day without a qualified driver in his 171 Carlow-registered car.

Solicitor Lana Doherty said that her client was helping out a friend that day and she insisted the defendant did not know he had no insurance cover.

The judge listened to her appeal for no disqualification and then considered the matter over lunch.

When the case was re-called, Ms Doherty added that the defendant was affected by hip and leg injuries sustained as a pedestrian in a road accident.

Connor’s health was taken into account as it was decided that he could keep his licence.

A fine of €400 was imposed.
