Pupils compete for chess glory
PRIMARY school children from all over County Wexford participated in the County Wexford Schools Chess Championship in the Brandon House Hotel in New Ross,
A total of 134 keen chess players pitted their chessboard wits against one another over the course of several hours.
The event, organised by Wexford Chess, was a great success and all the children had a great day, competing in their favourite sport and meeting chess lovers from other schools.
The Brandon House Hotel proved itself to be the perfect venue and was well able to cater for the large numbers. All the children enjoyed a lovely lunch which was included in the entry fee.
Honours for the overall best team went to St Joseph’s School, Gorey, who beat Bunscoil Rís New Ross Chess Club by one point to claim the top prize.
The best overall player of the tournament was won by Krystian Sikorski, a sixth class student of Bunscoil Rís, New Ross.
