Uninsured driver is disqualifi­ed

MELIK AHMAD of Bora House, Rectory Road in Enniscorth­y was put off the road for two years on conviction for driving without insurance.

Sitting at the District Court in Gorey, Judge John Cheatle postponed the disqualifi­cation until August after hearing that the defendant and his partner were due to have a baby.

The offence was detected after Ahmad’s BMW was seen turning away from a garda checkpoint in Camolin on the afternoon of November 11 in 2017.

The defending barrister told the judge that he client was from Pakistan and that he had been living in Ireland for the past ten years.

He hoped be freed to take up employment once he becomes father of an Irish born citizen with his Latvian partner, who accompanie­d him to court.

A fine of €350 was imposed.
