-

A DISTRICT court judge applied the probation act in the case of a man from Blackwater who appeared before him at a sitting of Enniscorthy District Court.

Darren Morgan, Killila, Blackwater, appeared before Judge Gerard Haughton charged with being drunk in public and engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour at Templeshannon, Enniscorthy, on December 27, 2018.

Sergeant Stephen Ennis said that at 1.40 a.m. on the date mentioned Gardai came upon the defendant in Templeshannon.

‘They were dealing with another matter and he made a nuisance of himself,’ said Sgt Ennis.

‘He was told to leave the scene and he refused,’ he added.

The defendant’s solicitor told the court the accused was out with friends that night and didn’t remember what happened.

‘He apologised to the Gardai and was deeply ashamed when told what he had done,’ said the solicitor.

The court heard the defendant is a lorry driver who earns €600 per week.

Judge Haughton applied the Probation Act after the defendant made a €500 contribution to the Garda Benevolent Fund.
