Big celebration for Gorey C.S. in May
ALL PAST pupils of Gorey Community School are urged to mark Friday, May 3, as an important date in their diaries. A 25-year celebration will be held on that night in the Ashdown Park Hotel, highlighting the major contribution the school has made in the G.A.A. world since opening its doors for the first time.
All former students who played hurling, football, camogie or ladies’ football are invited to the dinner dance where the memories of famous wins, near misses and the teams and players of the past will be recalled.
Tickets for the event cost €30, and there will be a four-course meal plus dancing to a live band.
One of the most poignant aspects of the night will be the launch of the Larry Doyle Cup which will fittingly honour the memory of a former staff member who gave distinguished service to the G.A.A. over many decades as a player, mentor and referee.
A native of Enniscorthy and winner of a Leinster Minor football medal with Wexford in 1969, the late Larry was closely associated with the Ballygarrett club in a variety of guises.
Another highlight of the night will be the naming of the school’s ‘team of 25 years’ in both codes.
Further details are available by contacting the school, and all past pupils are more than welcome to attend.
