ENNISCORTHY SHOP OWNER URGES CAUTION AFTER PHONE THEFT

-

AN Enniscorthy shop owner has urged other business owners to be cautious after a man entered her premises on Friday and stole a valuable phone from the counter.

The incident happened at Beautique which is a salon on Weafer Street.

Speaking to this newspaper the proprietor of the shop said: ‘He came in but waited until the shop was nearly empty around lunch time.’

The owner had gone on her lunch break and another staff member was on duty.

‘He seemed to be a bit agitated and was moving around a lot,’ said the owner.

‘ The man said he was making enquiries for his girlfriend,’ she added.

The phone was on the counter and as the man spoke to the staff member – who gave him a leaflet outlining the opening times – from CCTV footage viewed by this newspaper he appeared to take the phone from the counter and place it in his pocket while continuing to converse with the staff member.

‘One of the girls who used to work here said she saw the same man in her salon in Wexford town too,’ said the shop owner.

‘I just don’t want it happening to other people and I would say to people to be careful,’ she added.

The incident occurred at around 1.30 p.m. and a spokesperson for Enniscorthy Gardai confirmed the matter is under investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact the local garda station in confidence on 053-9242580.
