Discussion on disabled parking bays this week
THE Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) in Ballycanew is hosting a Communication and Engagement event to raise local awareness on all matters relating to disabled parking permits and spaces.
The matters which will be addressed include: how to apply for a disabled parking permit; the appropriate use of disabled parking permits; the impact of permit holders regarding the misuse of disabled parking permits and spaces; and the need for additional spaces in Gorey town.
Following the Communication and Engagement event, IWA will look at collaborative actions which can be taken locally by IWA, An Garda Síochana, local authority and parking wardens to address the issues.
The event takes place on Wednesday, February 27, at 12 noon in IWA Ballycanew Resource Outreach Centre. It is relevant to people who require a parking badge, so everyone is invited to the presentation to help highlight the misuse of disabled parking permits and spaces in Gorey.
For many of their members simple tasks such as going shopping or meeting a friend for a coffee is an ongoing challenge because too often these spaces are occupied by people who do not have a disability, many of whom can often be very aggressive to people who wish to highlight their inappropriate parking.
Selina Power, Service Support Officer with the IWA said she hopes to get strong support from members of the public at the event.
She said she is looking forward to discussing issues people are having in depth on the day.
