Residents concerned over lights

- By BRENDAN KEANE

SOME residents in the Orchard estate in Enniscorthy have expressed concern to this newspaper about traffic lights being out of action in the area.

The lights in question are located close to the County Wexford Community Workshop centre in Bellefield.

One of the residents spoke to this newspaper and said there have been a number of near-misses over the last few weeks.

‘We’ve contacted the council over it but so far nothing has been done and we’re worried that someone is going to get run over,’ she said.

The woman said she negotiates the crossing around six times-per-day and emphasised that she is not along in that.

‘ There are other people who use it regularly as well,’ she said.

Former Enniscorthy councillor and contestant in the forthcoming local elections, Jackser Owens, also spoke to this newspaper about the matter.

‘ The lights have been out for about four weeks now and I rang the council and complained about it too and they said they would send someone out to have a look but that was four weeks ago,’ he said.

‘ That is a vulnerable area and there is a lot of traffic going through there,’ he added.

Mr Owens went on to comment: ‘It will cause and accident and it’s been going on-and-on.’

‘ That Mace store [nearby] is a very busy shop,’ he added.
