Speaking to this newspaper about the event Edward Galvin said the race attracted 155 competitors from all around Co Wexford and other areas of the country.
‘ We had people from as far away as Nenagh and Trim,’ he said.
The first male contestant home was Shane Scully with a time of 1h 15m and the first female over the finish line was Ger Kelly with a time of 1h 34m.
The team event was won by St Anne’s GAA club with the winning squad composed of: Ken Cloney; Liam Rochford; Aidan Rochford and Finn O’Driscoll.
The race, which was organised in support of Ballyhoge GAA club, was run over four stages: a 17.5km cycle from Bree to Davidstown and Killurin; a 1km kayak on the Slaney; an 8.5km cycle back to Bree and it finished with a 6.5km forest run around Bree hill.
‘All of the contestants were individually times by Core Timing,’ said Mr Galvin.
‘It was a great success and we were delighted with how it went,’ he added.
‘ We will definitely be doing it again next year.
Mr Galvin said everyone involved with organising the event was very appreciative of the support it received from a number of local organisations including Slaney Search & Rescue, the Order of Malta and Wexford County Council.
He also congratulated everyone who took part.
