Saidhbhe’s a special talent

-

ENNISCORTHY ATHLETE and combined specialist Saidhbhe Byrne travelled to Scotland to take part in the Scottish indoor pentathlon.

It was her second year competing in the impressive Emirates arena.

Saidhbhe, featuring in the five events of the indoor pentathlon, was unfazed by the occasion and the large field of 32 entries.

Saidhbhe started her campaign with a 9.84 in the hurdles, and a 1.46 in the high jump.

She went on to achieve a 4.97 P.B. in the long jump, threw the shot putt out to 10.26, and achieved an overall points total of 2,973 - another P.B. for the Enniscorthy athlete who went on to take a bronze medal.

Saidhbhe had already started her indoor campaign the previous weekend before travelling to Scotland where she had secured no less than two gold and a bronze on day one of the Leinsters in Athlone.

Saidhbhe secured a bronze medal in the shot putt with a throw of 10.56m (3kg). She took gold in the high jump with a leap of 1.53m in a new P.B.

Saidhbhe continued to impress on day two with a gold in the 60m hurdles.

This qualifies the Enniscorthy athlete for three All-Irelands due to take place in late March.

Saidhbhe, under the guidance of coach Terence Mahon and high jump specialist Nicky Cowman, is developing into a multi-events athlete of substance.
