Young musicians in perfect harmony!
LOCAL comhaltas branch CCÈ Gorey/Ballygarrett hosted a Feis that was facilitated by St Joseph’s Primary School, Gorey, and heavily supported by members and the public on Sunday, April 7. ‘WE were delighted to observe a significant increase in entries within the various competition categories, including traditional singing, Sean-nós dancing, and in instrument solo, duet and trio competitions’.
The CCÈ Gorey/Ballygarrett branch is are focused on sharing and promoting traditional Irish music.
In a relaxed and sociable setting, younger members can start out on their musical journey but the intermediate and advanced musicians can also prepare together to compete in the County Fleadh at the end of May.
The Gradam na nÓg Youth Award was presented to four members from CCÈ Gorey/Ballygarrett branch namely, Hilda Browne, Barry Kenny, Brendan Sheehan and Kai Podgorski.
The youngsters were acknowledged and congratulated for their considerable contribution to Comhaltas and Irish culture. The four recipients were presented with a medallion and certificate in honour of their outstanding musical achievements and exceptional service to both their branch and Comhaltas.
The Feis finished with the Grúpa Cheoil and Céilí band performances.
‘ The children and musicians work hard through the year in preparation for their feis and fleadh and we would like to say a big thank you to them and their parents for their commitment and support during the year,’ said an organiser of the Feis.
The musical mentoring provided is free to all members, and tutors teach on a voluntary basis.
