SLANEY VALLEY ADVENTURE RACE OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED

THIS year’s Slaney Valley Adventure Race will take place in Bree on Saturday, February 8.

The event is being organised by Ballyhogue GAA club and will be comprised of a 22km cycle, 1m kayak, a further 8km cycle, and a 6.5km forest run.

The significan­t thing about the event is that it’s suitable for people of all levels.

A spokespers­on for the organising committee commented: ‘Whether you want to have a go and compete with the elite athletes or just enjoy the challenge of completing the event, Slaney Valley is suitable for all levels.’

With regard to the benefits of competing in the event the spokespers­on added: ‘While we’re still in the period of New Year’s resolution­s, those who resolved to get a bit fitter or be a little bit more adventurou­s will have the ideal opportunit­y as the countdown is now on for this year’s race.’

Now in its third year the popularity of the event has grown each year and it offers a unique challenge regardless of a participan­t’s level of fitness.

The overall distance covered in the event is 37.5km.

‘With DJs playing the music to motivate everyone and plenty of food and beverages on completion it promises to be a great, fun day, for all,’ said the spokespers­on.

There will be prizes for first man, woman and team home. Registrati­on on the day will be from 9 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. in Bree Hall and the first wave of participan­ts will set off at 11 a.m.
