Co Wexford has wonderful suppliers, designers and tradespeople who will be able to put you on the path to creating a new sanctuary
WITH the turning of the year, and the turning of a decade for that matter, inevitably our minds start to look for projects. For many, that lull after Christmas can be a long, long slog. The Christmas decorations have gone back on the attic and you’re undoubtedly seeing the house in a whole new light.
All of a sudden, a trip to the loo might lead to you daydreaming about the complete bathroom refit that you’ve been putting of for years. Well, in the dawning of a new decade, perhaps the attitude to take is ‘why not?’
You don’t have to take a sledgehammer to your walls or rip out the bathtub to completely change your bathroom. In fact you can do as little or as much as you’d like. Perhaps the first step to take is to evaluate exactly what you want from your bathroom. Do you need a separate bath and shower? Are you looking to ditch the clunky bath that’s just gathering dust? Or are you anxious to soak in a new state of the art tub?
The next step should be to look at layout. Being a room that everybody inevitably uses, it’s important that your bathroom is functional, but at the same time, that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. Inevitably, you’ll probably already have taken some inspiration from magazines or the bathrooms in other people’s houses, but it’s important to do your own thing and to be realistic about the space that you’re working with. For example, if your bathroom is relatively small in size, perhaps a standalone tub in the middle of the room wouldn’t be the most practical!
Lighting can be one of the best ways to transform your bathroom and the installation of spots or strip lighting can really set off the room. It’s important to factor in storage in whatever changes you decide to make too as you don’t want cans of lynx or bottles of shower gel taking away from your painstakingly thought out design.
Really it’s completely up to you how far you want to take your bathroom project. You can set your own budget that can stretch from new lighting, a lick of paint, or some additional bathroom furniture to a complete refit, a new shower installation or if you really want to go the whole hog, a jacuzzi bath!?
Luckily you don’t have to go it alone making your bathroom daydreams a reality.
