Support sought to save Enniscorthy greyhound track

-

THIS IS an important reminder for all greyhound people to show their support for Enniscorthy track at the meeting in the Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorthy, on this Wednesday, January 15, at 7.30 p.m. sharp.

There will be some influential people in attendance, including the Minister, Andrew Doyle. Now is the time for all greyhound people to stand together and demand this unfair and unjust decision be reversed with immediate effect as Enniscorthy is outperforming other tracks and a very important asset to Co. Wexford.

A very large attendance is expected, so it is advised to come early. On the track, it was a relatively quiet week, but there was a good win for Enniscorthy owner Pat Hyland as his Kiltrea Budgie scored his fifth career win when taking race eight up in Shelbourne Park on Friday night.

Breaking well from his trap one draw to lead around the opening bends and set sail for home, he was challenged all the way by Killeacle Sansa who headed Kiltrea off the last bend.

However, the early pace-setter rallied near the line to get back up and get the verdict in a time of 29.20.

There was a few nice winners on Saturday night in Waterford also, firstly in race one.

Liltuc Charlie showed the better early pace to lead off the second bend and ran on well to score snugly by two and a half lengths for owners Tanya Gardiner and Brendan O’Brien from New Ross. The winner is trained by Nick Turner of Barntown.

Another Barntown man, John Roche, enjoyed a nice winner also in race three when his Kingsmill April showed strong pace to lead down the back, but she was needing the line as the runner-up, Our Emily’s Star, almost caught her near the line.

In race two, the Eleanor Turner (Enniscorthy)-owned Afternoon Beauty’s got off the mark in good style when going past leader Carrigoe Zeb at the third bend, coming away up the straight to score convincingly in the end by three and a half lengths in 29.43.

Racing will re-commence this Thursday, January 16, at Enniscorthy.
