Streams of Bunclody Festival set to go ahead

- By BRENDAN KEANE

THE organisers of the annual Streams of Bunclody Festival are ploughing ahead with their plans to stage this year’s event in July.

The official launch of the festival will take place on June 15, and there is a special event planned to mark that.

Speaking to this newspaper the committee chairperson John King said that, as of now, the festival is going ahead.

‘We are going ahead with it,’ said Mr King.

‘We are working to that theory at the moment,’ he added.

However, the organisers haven’t yet booked any street artists because they don’t want to do that on a provisional basis.

Mr King also highlighted the fact that the festival is unlike most others and is effectively moveable.

‘It has crossed my mind that if we had to change our plans we might be postponing it and maybe it could be held at Halloween or something but at the moment we are planning for July,’ he said.

The theme of this year’s event will be WB Yeats and the launch date on June 15, will be a Yeats themed event.

‘We want to create a Yeats Day, I suppose similar in some ways to the [Bloomsday] event for Joyce in Dublin,’ said Mr King.

He said the launch day will also coincide with Cruinniú na nÓg and it will take place at Glanbia and there will be lots of activities for children.

All of the logistics are in place for the festival to go ahead and Mr King said the current lockdown has given him a chance to focus on having all the finer details sorted out.

In addition to the Streams of Bunclody festival itself the Yeat’s aspect of the event will continue until August 15.

While the coming weeks might dictate otherwise, for now it’s full steam ahead for what is always a very enjoyable festival for the people of Bunclody and beyond.

IF WE HAD TO CHANGE OUR PLANS, WE MIGHT BE POSTPONING IT... BUT AT THE MOMENT WE ARE PLANNING FOR JULY
