FCJ STUDENTS PRINT PPE

FCJ Bunclody students Caoimhe Byrne, David Furlong and Tom Tully are currently printing 3D biodegradable PPE face masks to aid the HSE with Covid-19.

They have produced over 200 face masks to date, totalling over 300 printing hours.

This is a coordinated effort with Bench Space Cork and Engineers Ireland, with 232 people involved all over the country.

Twenty thousand shields have been printed to date, with 1,300 being printed daily.

Blood Bikes Ireland are collecting the finished prints, with the Irish Defence Forces managing sterilisation and assembly.

The face masks have been approved for use by HSE frontline staff fighting Covid-19. A HSE worker said: ‘1,000 face shields delivered this morning which are in widespread use in the community, including in hospitals, by paramedics, in drug and alcohol services, community nursing and other services.’

Well done to these three young people for showing such initiative in helping to provide scarce PPE during this crisis.
