Greyhound track lifeline is a ‘light of hope’ in Enniscorthy

-

THE news that Enniscorthy greyhound track has been granted a lifeline by the IGB in terms of its possible future viability was described as ‘a light’ of hope at last week’s non-statutory meeting of Enniscorthy Municipal District Council.

Cathaoirleach, Cllr Kathleen Codd-Nolan began the teleconference meeting by commenting that the news brought ‘a little bit of hope’ for the facility.

‘I am very happy to see that lifeline,’ she said. ‘I hope the greyhound board will be able to sort out the three or four issues they have to sort out [following] the Indecon report,’ she added.

She also expressed hope that the IGB ‘will come up trumps’ and allow the track a little time to sort the track [issues] in the best way they can.

‘It’s hugely important that the track is kept going,’ said Cllr Codd-Nolan.

She went on to highlighted the significance of the track from a health an wellbeing perspective.

‘When you have a dog you have to walk and when you have greyhounds you have to walk twice as much,’ she said.

She emphasised that the social aspect of the track is very important too and it attracts grandparents and grandchildren.

‘It’s a very sociable [facility] and meet your friends there and that is very good from a mental health aspect,’ she said.
