Community support initiative
THE Enniscorthy District Community Support (EDCS) initiative is being scaled back slightly as the county, along with the rest of the country, begins its phased transition to reopening following the coronavirus crisis.
However, such was the success of the scheme and how well received it was throughout the district that consideration is being given to developing it into an ongoing initiative.
In a report presented to members of the district’s Municipal District Council last week, District Manager Ger Mackey said the EDCS ‘ has begun to scale back the Meals on Wheels service to three-days-a-week during the transition phase’.
‘It it anticipated that a [Meals on Wheels] framework will be established within the district which will see the establishment of up to four new [Meals on Wheels] services in the district,’ said Mr Mackey in his report.
He said the EDCS was borne out of necessity and added: ‘ there is real merit to developing the EDCS into a model of community development to drive sustainable community development in the district’.
