Public realm painting scheme to begin soon

-

A PAINTING and embellishment scheme of the public realms in Enniscorthy, Ferns and Bunclody will begin in the coming weeks.

At last week’s Enniscorthy Municipal District meeting, District Manager Ger Mackey said ‘it was proposed to commence the “paint the public realm” scheme, which has been agreed.’

Mr Mackey said the scheme will involve sports clubs and other organisations participating in the painting of signs on street furniture in the town and district.

‘We will also be looking at Ferns and Bunclody,’ said Mr Mackey, having already mentioned the roll-out of the scheme in Enniscorthy.‘We hope to begin in the Promenade area this week,’ he added.

Cllr Barbara-Anne Murphy highlighted the fact that due to the enforced inactivity over the last couple of months there is an issue with weed growth in certain areas.

‘ There is a lot of weeding and general tidying up to do as well so could sports clubs help with general tidying up as well because the usual groups have not been working,’she said.

‘Yes that is the plan in terms of the public realm clean-up,’ replied Mr Mackey.

Cllr Cathal Byrne asked if the benches ‘out on the walkway out towards Edermine Bridge’ could also be looked at and Mr Mackey agreed they are ‘ looking a bit shabby’.
