Timmy’s a popular club player of year
IT’S NOT only on the field that Enniscorthy Rugby Football Club are one of the most progressive sporting outfits in the county. Their first season within the Energia AIL structure may have ended abruptly when they were still chasing the Division 2C title, but they did have the consolation of Nick Doyle collecting the rising star award.
Ordinarily, that would have led to a night of celebrations in their Ross Road clubhouse, but they came up with the next best thing as a means of overcoming the Covid-19 restrictions.
A decision was taken to evolve the club’s annual
Senior player sports awards night by holding an online ceremony to acknowledge the dedication and commitment of everyone involved in that
AIL journey, which is only beginning.
The event was a resounding success, hosted and presented by club stalwart
Declan O’Brien and backs coach Kieran Hurrell.
As well as celebrating the honour bestowed on Doyle – who was interviewed in last week’s newspaper – another four prestigious individual award winners were announced.
The J1 player of the year went to Michael Farrell, while Brian Bolger was selected as the squad player of the year.
The leading young player accolade went to Ben Kidd, and that was followed by the big announcement of the evening, namely the choice for Enniscorthy Rugby Football Club player of the year.
And there was a very popular victor, as Timmy Morrissey has been an integral part of the journey from Junior to Senior ranks and was one of the stand-out performers in the AIL.
