Coaching tips to make use of time
ON A normal late May evening, the playing fields of Wexford would be alive to the sound of eager youngsters enjoying their hurling and football games. However, in this world of uncertainty, there’s still an opportunity for coaches to make the most of the spare time on their hands, now that they cannot work with players in the usual way.
Here’s some tips worth considering:
PLAN - Use this time to plan: season plans; session plans; individual player development plans.
UPSKILL - Use this time to upskill and learn something new. Wexford G.A.A. and Leinster G.A.A. are offering a wide range of opportunities.
READ - Reading is a great way to improve your knowledge of your sport, or how you coach. It is also brilliant for enhancing your imagination.
PRACTICE - Make use of your time. Get outside. Practice new drills, new skills, and games with the children.
LISTEN - Use this time to listen to some of the really good coaching podcasts.
EVALUATE - Evaluate yourself as a coach. What are you good at? What are your weaknesses? What are your team’s strengths and weaknesses?
