ACTIVE RETIRED CONCERT

On the last night of the Active Retired Association’s ‘Festival of Fun’ a Concert was held in St. Aidan’s Hall, Irish St., Bunclody and the talent was outstanding. Our very own Bunclody musicians, Fran Breen, Seamus Moran, Peter Steemers and Frank Buckley, started off proceedings followed by Kitty Hayes-Mahon who did a fantastic recitation on the Beauties of Bunclody, with musical accompaniment by Seamus Moran. Joe Hickey also did a recitation and Grace Sheehan sang beautifully. Mary Hughes and Jack Kilbride played music and Etty Kilbride brought the house down with a comedy on Bullingate Hall. John Moulton sang and Andy Doyle acted as Master of Ceremonies for the evening and did a few recitations, well up to his usual high standard! Bunclody’s own Frances Cahill-Fitzpatrick and Marie Wall-Dunne both excelled themselves as singers, as did Joe Whelan from Clonegal. Terry Doyle and Michael Keating gave a selection on accordion, Michael Hughes did a recitation, Brian Twomey sang and Paul Campbell played banjo. Bunclody Active Retired Association did their highly comical sketch which was produced by Dan and Mary Murphy. The players were Joe Roberts, Annie Meyler, Trish Fockrell, Jim Byrne, Sarah Burke, Margaret Barry and Kitty Hayes-Mahon. This was an extremely successful night and a fitting conclusion to a wonderful weekend ‘Festival of Fun’ organised by the local Active Retirement Association. Sincere thanks to all who contributed to the event. Derek Nally officially closed the Festival at the end of the concert and thanked everyone who helped to make the Festival such a memorable occasion.

It is hoped to repeat the event next year.
