Thursday shopping to begin in June

May 1978

-

Wexford Chamber of Commerce is to encourage local people and visitors to the town to shop on Thursday mornings during the months of June, July and August.

Thursday has traditionally been the closed day in the county town, but this year, most of the larger shops have agreed to open on Thursday mornings, and it is thought some of the smaller ones will do the same.

Individual stores will have special offers with up to ten per cent off certain items on Thursdays.

Meanwhile, the Chamber is once again supporting the Keep Wexford Beautiful campaign and as their contribution they are calling on Main Street traders to sweep their shopfronts twice daily.

They say that Wexford is the first and last port of call for a large percentage of our foreign visitors and a tidy appearance would leave a good impression.

Wexford Chamber of Commerce are now asking that more waste bins be installed in the town, and that more use be made of the mechanical road sweeper which was bought at great expense to the ratepayers.

They are also asking the Co. Manager to look into the possibility of purchasing a portable machine for getting rid of the unsightly graffiti that is spoiling the appearance of many areas in the town and county.
