Fine Gael rep gearing up for local elections
A new candidate has secured the nomination from Fine Gael to run alongside sitting councillor Cathal Byrne in the 2024 local elections.
Pat Kehoe is a familiar face in the Marshalstown and Enniscorthy areas. An active member of the community, Pat is the Vice Chairman of Marshalstown GAA Club and the Chairman of Marshalstown Community Centre.
He is also currently on the finance committee for Marshalstown parish and has held positions on the school’s parents committee.
A founding committee member of Baile Dubh Tire, a ladies football club that was established in 2015, Pat has been able to watch the club grow from just two teams into a full club.
He has also been a part of the Enniscorthy Arch Club since 1987, the organisation provides a programme of activities for people with disabilities.
Pat is originally a farmer and owner of a successful wastewater business, located in Clonjordan.
Pat was selected at the Fine Gael selection convention on Friday October 27 to represent Fine Gael in the in the 2024 local elections as Cllr. Kathleen Codd-Nolan is stepping down.
The Fine Gael councillor and long-time incumbent in the Enniscorthy district announced in September of 2023 that this is to be her last year as a public representative.
A number of family bereavements in recent months caused Cllr. Codd-Nolan to reflect on her role as a local councillor, to consider a world outside of politics and to ultimately come to the realisation that life is short.
“I just realised that life is short. I would have had a few family bereavements over the summer and it made me reflect on things somewhat,” she said.
“Then there was some pressure from the party to make a decision, they wanted me to run, but after talking to my husband, to my family and friends, I decided this would be my last year. I’ve always enjoyed it and I still do, but the role is changing so fast in this digital era; I would have very basic computer skills so I found that part of it quite tough going.”
Pat is excited at the prospect of filling Cllr. Codd-Nolan’s shoes and praised her for her work over the years.
“I would like to take this opportunity to wish our outgoing councillor Kathleen Codd Nolan a long and healthy retirement and to again thank her for all her years of hard work on behalf of the people of the Enniscorthy area,” he said.
“This seat has been so excellently represented over the past 90 plus years in the Enniscorthy/Kiltealy/Marshalstown/ Castledockrell/Ballindaggin and Caim areas. I will be putting all my efforts into the forth coming local elections to retain this seat in order to keep representation for our area.”
“I will endeavour to work tirelessly to ensure a strong voice at the table to bring new business opportunity to our local area. I feel it is so important to hold this seat as a testament to all the great Fine Gael people that served in this area and I would like to confirm my committed effort to make this happen,” he added.
“I would like to ask you all for help in continuing to keep two Fine Gael representatives in the Enniscorthy district in myself and Cathal.”
