Community Centres now vulnerable to closures
THE impact of the discovery of structural issues at part of Ardgillan Community College is being felt outside of schools with Fingal County Council announcing the closure of a community centre in Dublin 15 as a consequence of the discovery.
Fingal County Council announced that Tyrrelstown Community Centre would close temporarily following identification of structural issues in schools
The council explained: ‘Following the decision of Department of Education to close Tyrrelstown Educate Together School and St Luke’s National School, Tyrrelstown, today, the Board of Management of Tyrrelstown Community Centre have notified the council that they consider it prudent to close the community facilities temporarily pending further clarity on the structural issues identified at the schools. The schools campus at Tyrrelstown, which is owned by the Department of Education, includes a large community facility funded by Fingal County Council as part of the shared schools model which has provided community facilities integrated into schools’.
