Com­mu­nity Cen­tres now vul­ner­a­ble to clo­sures

THE im­pact of the dis­cov­ery of struc­tural is­sues at part of Ardg­illan Com­mu­nity Col­lege is be­ing felt out­side of schools with Fingal County Coun­cil an­nounc­ing the clo­sure of a com­mu­nity cen­tre in Dublin 15 as a con­se­quence of the dis­cov­ery.

Fingal County Coun­cil an­nounced that Tyrrel­stown Com­mu­nity Cen­tre would close tem­po­rar­ily fol­low­ing iden­ti­fi­ca­tion of struc­tural is­sues in schools

The coun­cil ex­plained: ‘Fol­low­ing the de­ci­sion of Depart­ment of Ed­u­ca­tion to close Tyrrel­stown Ed­u­cate To­gether School and St Luke’s Na­tional School, Tyrrel­stown, to­day, the Board of Man­age­ment of Tyrrel­stown Com­mu­nity Cen­tre have no­ti­fied the coun­cil that they con­sider it pru­dent to close the com­mu­nity fa­cil­i­ties tem­po­rar­ily pend­ing fur­ther clar­ity on the struc­tural is­sues iden­ti­fied at the schools. The schools cam­pus at Tyrrel­stown, which is owned by the Depart­ment of Ed­u­ca­tion, in­cludes a large com­mu­nity fa­cil­ity funded by Fingal County Coun­cil as part of the shared schools model which has pro­vided com­mu­nity fa­cil­i­ties in­te­grated into schools’.
