Fines for man who drove with wrong insurance disc
A MAN who was caught driving without insurance exhibited an insurance disc for another vehicle, a court has heard. Alin Lunca (24) had insurance for another car but because he had purchased a second car he was not insured to drive it under his current policy. He claimed he didn’t realise he couldn’t drive the second car as his insurance did not cover him to.
The defendant, of Bremore Pastures Crescent in Balbriggan pleaded guilty to driving without insurance on February 6 at Drogheda Street in Balbriggan. He also pleaded guilty to exhibiting a false disc on the same date.
Balbriggan District Court heard the defendant was stopped at Drogheda Street and had no insurance. The insurance disc on the car was for another vehicle.
Defence solicitor Fiona D’arcy said the defendant was covered to drive a different car and now has insurance on the new car.
‘He didn’t realise he couldn’t drive it as he wouldn’t have been insured as the owner of the new car,’ said Ms D’arcy.
Ms D’arcy asked Judge Dermot Dempsey not to impose a driving ban as the defendant undertakes not to drive without proper insurance in place. Judge Dempsey imposed a fine of €400 and convicted the defendant of driving without insurance. He did not impose a driving ban but convicted and fined the defendant a further €100 for exhibiting a false disc.
