Cannabis was for man’s ‘anxiety’
A MAN caught with cannabis was taking the drug to help him as he suffers from anxiety, a court has heard.
Shane Buckley (26) of Seatown Villas in Swords pleaded guilty to being in unlawful possession of the drug which was worth €25 at Swords Road on June 10.. He has no previous convictions.swords District Court heard the defendant co-operated with gardai and has not come to garda attention since.
Defence barrister Annette Kealy said the 25-year-old, who lives at home, has an interest in website development and has been accepted to complete a college course in computers to progress his self-taught skills.
‘He suffers anxiety and took cannabis to help him but he realises he shouldn’t do this,’ said Ms Kealy.
‘He has €300 as a charitable donation if the court is willing to accept it,’ she added.
Judge Dermot Dempsey struck the case out after the charitable donation was handed over. He allocated the money to Childhood Cancer Foundation.
