Balbriggan’s Mel wins a top nurs­ing award

A Balbriggan Nurs­ing Home is cel­e­brat­ing af­ter claim­ing a top hon­our at the Nurs­ing Homes Ire­land Care Awards, in as­so­ci­a­tion with Home­care Med­i­cal Sup­plies. Mel Uy of Hamil­ton Park Care Fa­cil­ity, Balbriggan, was the win­ner of the Nurs­ing Home Reg­is­tered Nurse of the Year Award.

Mel claimed his hon­our be­fore 400+ rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the nurs­ing home, older per­son care and health sec­tors across Ire­land at the awards cer­e­mony at Ci­ty­west Ho­tel, Co Dublin, on Thurs­day 15th Novem­ber. RTE pre­sen­ter Marty Whe­lan was the event MC.

An­other North Dublin fi­nal­ist rep­re­sented her nurs­ing home with dis­tinc­tion at the awards. Linda Mcphillips was a fi­nal­ist in the Nurs­ing Home An­cil­lary Worker Award cat­e­gory. Tadhg Daly, Nurs­ing Homes Ire­land CEO ex­tended his con­grat­u­la­tions to Mel: ‘Con­grat­u­la­tions to Mel for his mag­nif­i­cent achieve­ment in win­ning the Reg­is­tered Nurse of the Year Award.

‘The award is es­tab­lished to cel­e­brate ex­cel­lence in the nurs­ing dis­ci­pline within our nurs­ing homes.

‘Can­di­dates were re­quired to demon­strate how their work con­trib­utes to care ex­cel­lence within the nurs­ing home and has a demon­stra­ble ben­e­fit in achiev­ing a cul­ture of per­son-cen­tered­ness.

‘Once again the stan­dard of en­try to the awards was ex­cep­tional, with en­tries re­ceived from nurs­ing home can­di­dates from across Ire­land.

‘Con­grat­u­la­tions to Mel for his won­der­ful ac­com­plish­ment of win­ning the pres­ti­gious hon­our.

‘The res­i­dents and staff of Hamil­ton Park and the wider Balbriggan com­mu­nity should be im­mensely proud of his ac­com­plish­ment.’

He also ex­tended his con­grat­u­la­tions to Linda: ‘To reach the fi­nal was a su­perb achieve­ment, with out­stand­ing can­di­dates put for­ward from across Ire­land. Linda, the Carechoice Malahide and the lo­cal com­mu­nity should take tremen­dous pride in her achieve­ment.’

Some 27 fi­nal­ists from across Ire­land went for­ward for nine awards. They recog­nise nurses, car­ers, an­cil­lary work­ers, ac­tiv­ity co­or­di­na­tors, ex­cel­lence in din­ing and nu­tri­tion, ex­cel­lence in de­men­tia care, com­mu­nity ini­tia­tive, and end of life care.
