Chatting with Barry Moroney

Staring at a futuristic cityscape through the 40° celsius haze, Dubai based businessma­n, Barry Moroney, often thinks about how different his environmen­t is now in comparison to the country he was born and raised in. Having left Ireland in 2013, Barry and his wife, Nicole, settled into life in the Middle East very quickly and think nothing of the seven hour “commute” home to Ireland to see family and friends a couple of times every year.

Earlier this year, Barry became the Founder & CEO of the global sales developmen­t agency, Leadable, and is very bullish about the growth plans for the company.

During his time as Head of Middle East operations at TINT, the American technology firm, and Head of Business Developmen­t for Maison Privee, the highlyfund­ed Irish-owned hospitalit­y start-up, Barry noticed a major problem facing sales teams that he wanted to solve. SME’s and growing companies don’t typically hire an in-house Sales Developmen­t function, as it is too costly and difficult to scale and, as a result, outbound sales usually falls out of focus.

“As a sales person myself, I know that it is almost impossible to consistent­ly do cold outbound sales whilst trying to get contracts

opponrtudn­ities signed for that are closer to the finish line at the same time. More often than not, sales people will give most of their attention to the latter because there isn’t enough time in the day for both.”

Barry founded Leadable to solve this problem and help startups and SME’s to not only grow quicker, but to grow in a more predictabl­e fashion, so that they can scale up the rest of their operations accordingl­y. The company acts as an outsourced sales developmen­t team and uses a combinatio­n of technology and human specialist skills to build a scalable and repeatable lead generation engine for its clients existing sales teams.

“When companies rely on inbound sales only, they get whatever clients they can get. However, when they are proactive with outbound sales, they get the clients that they want - the ones who can really

move their business forward.”

Though he is based in Dubai, Barry is operating Leadable as a 100% remote company and has his team spread across four countries.

With a number of Irish and other internatio­nal clients, the idea is to operate the business remotely with the aid of technology to allow for full flexibilit­y on where to live in the future - Ireland,

Dubai or perhaps further afield.
