- By FINTAN LAMBE

DECEMBER was a winning month for members of Gorey Credit Union. Four lucky members drove away with brand new cars, while over 100 others won prizes to the value of €10,000.

The bi-monthly car draw is open to those who pay €5 a month to enter. Last month, four cars, worth more than €70,000 in total, were given away.

Tom Brennan, marketing, IT, and business development officer, was delighted to report that they had their first winner from Rathdrum in Week 2. The winners were: Helen Tobin, Creagh, who won a Hyundai i20 deluxe; Lorna Driver, Rathdrum, who won a Peugeot 2008; Angela Power, Ferns, who won a Renault Clio; and Killian Hobbs, Riverchapel, who won a Toyota Yaris.

In addition, four entrants also won €250 in cash. They were: Teresa Jackman; Catherine Kinsella; Carol Christie; and Stephen Hughes.

To sign up to the car draw, visit www.goreycreditunion.ie or complete a form in the local branch. A €5 deduction is made from the signed up member’s share account each month. The more people that sign up, the more cars can be given away. The next car draw will take place on January 13 where a Suzuki Swift will be won.

Before Christmas, Gorey Credit Union held its annual random member draw which has a prize fund of €10,000. Over 100 members won prizes ranging from supermarket vouchers to household electrical goods and televisions.

The top prize, a 60” television which was won by Aisling Kelly of Kilmuckridge. Mircea and Lenuta Rus won a 55” television; Terence and Pauline Drew won a 49” television; while Ann Noctor won a 32” smart television. Other prizes included: a hover board; a drone; a laptop; tablets; and Bluetooth speakers.

‘We had winners from all areas in the enlarged common bond, which stretches from South Bray down past Curracloe now,’ said Tom. ‘This is the best part of my job. I love delivering good news to members, and hearing their reaction.’

Gorey Credit Union Ltd has undergone significant change in the past few years, and now has four branches. In the coming weeks, a complete re-brand will see its name changed to Altura Credit Union Ltd.
