Ballycanew SCHOOL NEWS

Enrolments are now being taking for new pupils for September 2018. Please call to the school office or call 053 9427496 for an enrolment pack. Please return enrolment forms by April 14.

Scholastic Book Fair – A children’s book fair will be held in Ballycanew NS from Monday, April 23, to Thursday, April 26, 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. Commission from all the purchases will be used to purchase more books for the school library. Parents and members of the public are most welcome to attend as their support would be very much appreciate­d. Mobile book cases packed with the best books will be displayed in the school.

CLOTHES COLLECTION

Ballycanew National School are holding a clothes recycling collection on Monday, April 23, to help raise funds for the school. Please donate all your new and used men’s/women’s and children’s clean unwanted clothing, paired shoes, towels, belts, handbags, ties, lines, household textiles, stuffed toys etc. Please leave bags into GP hall on Friday, April 20, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. or before 9.30 a.m. on Monday, April 23. Please do not leave bags after 9.30 a.m. on the Monday morning. Thank you for your support.

Split-the-pot was cancelled on Saturday, March 3, due to the bad weather.

LITTLE DUCKLINGS

TABLE QUIZ

Ballycanew Community First Responders are holding a table quiz on Saturday, March 24, at the Ramble Inn at 8 p.m. This was a huge success last year and enjoyed by many so please support your local Community First Responders.

FIRST RESPONSERS

Ballycanew Community First Responders need new volunteers. Our aim is to provide cover 24/7 but at the moment we don’t have enough volunteers to do that. The commitment requires one training session once a month (one to two hours) and cover one 12-hour shift once a week. It works around your commitment­s. A week of high drama at the KMH came to a close recently as the results (confined section) of Kilmuckrid­ge Drama Festival were announced. The adjudicato­r Patrick Sutton delivered his verdict as follows.

Confined Section – first Place Sillian Players, ‘Una Pooka’ by Michael Harding. Second Enniscorth­y Drama Group, ‘The Beauty Queen of Leenane’ by Martin McDonagh. Third Clann Machua Drama Group, ‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’ by Martin Donagh. Adjudicato­r’s Award – David and Michael Farrelly, Sillian Players.

Best Actor – Conor Shaffrey, Sillian Players. Best Actress – Anne Marie Whelan, Enniscorth­y Drama Group.

Best Supporting Actor – Iggy Bownes, Clann Machua Drama Group. Best Supporting Actress – Megan Marriott, Curtain Call Dungarvan.

Best Set – Sillian Players. Best Costume Sillian Players. Best Producer – Sillian Players, Paddy Farrelly. Best Play – ‘Una Pooka’ Sillian Players.

On the final night parish priest Fr Frank Murphy compliment­ed the organisers on the festival’s huge success noting that there was an excellent demand for seats this year.

The annual Tidy Towns Calendar is on sale in shops in the village. The calendar features photo competitio­n entries from the exhibition held during Easter in the KMH All proceeds from the sale of the calendar will go towards Kilmuckrid­ge Tidy Towns, who will endeavour to keep our village beautiful.
