Man had no idea about drugs
A MAN who claimed his drink was spiked by his friends said he had no idea where the drugs found in his possession had come from.
Keith O’Brien (26), 164 Comeragh Road, Drimnagh, Dublin 12, was charged with the unlawful possession of drugs at Gorey Garda Station and with refusing to give his name and address and engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour at Seafield Hotel, Ballymoney.
Both offences occurred on August 19, 2017. He pleaded guilty to the charges. Sgt Stephen Ennis said that on the night in question gardai were called to Seafield Hotel following reports of a male acting aggressively.
On arrival O’Brien was aggressive and refused to give gardai his name or address.
He was arrested and brought to Gorey Garda Station where he was searched.
Gardai found two bags of cannabis herb valued at €100.
Acting for O’Brien solicitor David Tarrant said that O’Brien is an apprentice electrician.
O’Brien, he said, believed his drink had been spiked on the night by his friends while he was attending a wedding at the hotel. He said his client had no recollection of the events and was very embarrassed.
Mr Tarrant said O’Brien had no idea how the drugs came to be in his possession.
Judge John Cheatle adjourned the case until September 19 to allow O’Brien make a payment of €100 to the Garda Benevolent Fund.
