A great show by Saoirse students
AN EXHIBITION in Gorey Library by students from the Saoirse Training Centre is aimed at raising awareness about the environment.
The training centre, which is part of St Aidan’s Services, created an art project entitled ‘Plastic is the New Green’ in hope of informing the public about the hazardous affect single use plastic has on the environment.
Care Assistant Helen Tobin said there are three main pieces in the exhibition.
‘We have Mother Nature smothering in plastic, The Tree of Life polluted with plastic and the Earth drowning in plastic,’ said Helen.
Also included in the exhibition are indi- vidual written pieces by the service users.
One service user wrote: ‘Here is an example, our world, the warmth of the sun, the wet of the rain, keeps the grass green and soft, but we are not helping our world, the smell is simply rotten, we dumped our dirty plastic, we polluted our lakes and oceans, when are we going to clean up the earth?’.
The project has taken a few weeks to complete and all participants are very proud of their hard work. The Saoirse Training Centre provide and develop a high quality, dynamic and individualised programme of training, leading to greater independence, occupational and social interaction and inclusion for people with special needs.
