Traffic warning over farm tyre day

Gorey Guardian - - NEWS -

A TRAFFIC warning has been issued for the farm tyre bring-centre day in New Ross Mart, after 2km tailbacks were reported at the first collection day in Cavan.

New Ross Mart, located in Rosbercon, is hosting the collection today, (Tuesday, October 9) from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m.

The cost of the collection is €15 per tonne for the first three tonnes, and €160 for anything over that amount.

Ireland South MEP Deirdre Clune said that it is important that lessons are learned from Cavan.

MEP Clune said: ‘Farmers faced significant delays in bringing old tyres to the recycle point in Cavan and lessons must be learned from this. Measures must be put in place to ensure delays like those experienced in Cavan do not occur again. Over 450 farmers turned up at Cavan and this shows what a valuable service this is but it must be done right.’

She called on Minister Naughten to ensure that long queues don’t happen at upcoming Wexford collection point. ‘This is a very important and valuable initiative from by the Department. I would also encourage the Department to look at more ways in which it can facilitate farmers to recycle tyres.’
