Judge or­ders do­na­tions to SVP

OF­FEND­ERS found in pos­ses­sion of drugs were re­quired to make do­na­tions to the St Vin­cent de Paul by Christ­mas if they wish to avoid con­vic­tions when they ap­peared at Gorey Dis­trict Court.

Dar­ren O’Con­nor (21) of 12 River­chapel Court, Cour­town, was ac­com­pa­nied to court by his mother who heard how he as stopped and searched on April 11 at Cour­town Road. Cannabis worth €10 came to light. In full time em­ploy­ment, he was told to come up with €400 for the SVP.

Ross Moore (21) from 59 Creagh Demesne, Gorey, was the tar­get of search con­ducted un­der war­rant at his home on Fe­bru­ary 7 when €20 worth of cannabis was seized.

So­lic­i­tor Lana Do­herty pro­duced a ref­er­ence from Moore’s em­ployer and stated that her client planned to travel next year to South Amer­ica.

He was told to stump up €750 for the good cause se­lected by the judge.
