Open night shows door to the future

OPEN NIGHT AT COLÁISTE BHRÍDE, CARNEW

- By BRENDAN KEANE

COLÁISTE Bhríde in Carnew opened its doors to prospective new students, their parents and guardians earlier this month when it held its annual Open Night.

The visitors were visibly impressed by the display of students’ work on view and they were also informed about the school’s wide range of extra-curricular activities available to students.

In addition to its reputation for academic excellence the school also encourages creativity and that fact was underlined by exemplary performances from the school concert band as the visitors made their way around the school.

Some of the younger guests were invited to participate in activities relating to practical subjects including science experiments and challenges in maths and English.

Student representatives were available at the stands to talk about their involvement in different projects and committees such as Green Schools, Development Education, Student Council, the Library and the Meitheal Programme.

Visitors were given information on the overall range of opportunities available to students in Coláiste Bhríde including those in the areas of sport and debating.

There was a large crowd in attendance and upon entering the school they were greeted by principal Linda Dunne.

Ms Dunne addressed those present on two occasions during the evening and she outlined the many curricular and extracurricular initiatives that the school encourages to fulfil its mission of ‘caring, challenging and achieving together’.

In particular, Ms Dunne detailed the supports available in the school to new students entering for the first time.

Members of the current student population acted as guides on the night to ensure that parents and prospective students enjoyed a thorough tour of the facility.

The event also provided an opportunity to promote the school’s upcoming ‘Strictly Dancing’ event which will take place in the Amber Springs Hotel, Gorey, on November 15.
