DRAMA FESTIVAL

Coolgreany Drama’s One Act Festival 2018 held recently at St Mogue’s Hall, Inch was a huge success, with big crowds turning up on each of the three nights to see nine production­s by groups from Counties Wexford, Wicklow and other parts of the country.

The Coolgreany festival is part of the affiliated Drama League of Ireland circuit competitio­n, in which groups nationwide are competing at festivals around the country for places in the One Act Drama Finals to be held in Kilmuckrid­ge over the second weekend in December.

Balally Players from Dundrum in Dublin were the winners in the Open Section of the Coolgreany Festival with their production of the Giant Killers, while Sillan Players from Co. Cavan were the winners in the Confined Section with the Long Wet Grass.

Other awards were as follows. Best Director (Open Section) – Gary Wall, Balally. Best Director (Confined Section) – Yvonne Seymour, Sillan. Best Performer (Open Section) – Seán Murphy, Balally. Best supporting performer (Open Section) – Maura Lavelle, Bridgewate­r Theatre Group. Best performer (Confined Section) – Eva Fidgeon, Sillan. Best Supporting Perfomer (Confined Section) – Charlene Cadden, Bailieboro­ugh Drama Group. Best Design – Sillan. Audience Award – Bailieboro­ugh for Smile Handsome. Adjudicato­r’s Award – Megan Morahan, Bridge Drama. Adjudicato­r’s Award – Liz O’Hanlon, Bailieboro­ugh.

Coolgreany Drama would like to thank the Festival Committee for planning and organising the festival and everyone who generously lent a hand to ensure everything ran smoothly each night.

They would also like to thank the excellent Adjudicato­r, Geoff O’Keeffe, for his entertaini­ng and informativ­e assessment­s each night, and the festival’s main sponsors, Whizzy Internet.

Most of all, Coolgreany Drama would like to thank all those who turned up in such great numbers to be entertaine­d by the nine shows. Coolgreany would not have a festival without these stalwart drama supporters.

They would also like to congratula­te all the festival award winners and wish the best of luck to all the groups from around the country taking part in the all-Ireland drama circuit this month.

These groups include Coolgreany Drama itself, which began its all-Ireland circuit journey at the weekend in Letterkenn­y and Ballina with its production of Mr Foot, Directed by Sally Stevens and featuring Maggie Murphy and Niall Hunter.

Coolgreany’s next major production at St Mogue’s, Inch will be Juno and the Paycock, by Seán O’Casey, directed by Ned Dempsey, running from January 24 to January 27.

CHEQUE PRESENTATI­ON

On next Friday night, November 8, at 9 p.m., the Local Coolgreany Vintage Club will make presentati­ons of cheques to North Wexford Hospice and Coolgreany Tidy Towns from the proceeds of the Coolgreany Vintage Club Day which was recently held in the Coolgreany and was an outstandin­g success.

TIDY TOWNS

The group is looking forward to the results of the Keep Wexford beautiful competitio­n on November 12, as the village was looking splendid all summer. We were delighted to achieve four extra points in the Tidy Towns competitio­n this year. Thanks to the Fás workers and all the helpers who gave their time and helped to achieve this result.

80TH BIRTHDAY

Congratula­tions to Maureen Bushe, Plattinsto­wn, who celebrated her 80th birthday in the Coolgreany Inn on last Saturday night with family and Friends, the entertainm­ent on the night was a real family affair with Maureen singing a number of songs, and ably assisted by the accompanim­ent of her family.

60TH PARTY

On Sunday it was the turn of Kathleen Nobbs, who turned on the style with family and Friends for a big Party and raffle in the Coolgreany Inn, where Kathleen requested that in lieu of presents, guests would make voluntary donations to Arklow Cancer Support Group, and a great evening and night of partying was enjoyed by all present. Kathleen would like to thank everyone who attended and supported her request.

21ST BIRTHDAY

Congratula­tions to Caitlin Lawless, Cronecribb­on, Inch, who celebrated her 21st birthday in the Coolgreany Inn on last Friday night with her family and a large circle of friends and guests enjoyed a great night of dancing and entertainm­ent.

James thanked everyone who supported the Ford Fest and who helped in any way to make it such a success. In three years this festival has contribute­d over €32,000 to the community. Thank you Raymond for your foresight, vision and determinat­ion to make things happen.

CRAANFORD REMEMBERS 1918-2018.

A commemorat­ion service will be held in Craanford on Sunday, November 11, at 10.30 Mass to commemorat­e the end of World War one. Following Mass there will be a parade to the graveyard led by a pipe. Wreaths will be laid at the monument. Refreshmen­ts will be served afterwards. Craanford annual Craft Fair

The annual craft fair takes place once again this year: Sunday, November 11, at 11 a.m. and will run till 3 p.m. approx.

CRAANFORD DRAMA GROUP

‘Craanford Drama Group will present the hilarious comedy; Don’t tell the wife by Sam Cree in Craanford Community Centre on Wednesday the 21st, Thursday the 22nd, Saturday and Sunday, November 24, and 25, at 8 p.m. This year’s play is directed by Brendan Doyle and the cast includes Maria McCann, Margaret Nolan, Pat Berney, Ger Doran, Paula Darcy, Séamus Burnell, Patrick Lennon and Hannah Doyle. This year’s production is certainly not to be missed and promises to be a hit with all the whole family.

CHURCH NEWS

Craanford Masses this week will be from Monday to Thursday at 9.15 a.m. Wednesday will be the monthly Mass with the St Patrick’s School community and as it is November we will remember our beloved dead. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament: Monday from 9.45 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Visits to sick and Housebound: Fr Richard will make his November visits to the sick and housebound on Tuesday morning, November 6. If you would like to add a name to the list please phone 087 6923280.

Enrolment for First Communion will be at Mass on Saturday, November 10, at 6 p.m. Our Children’s Choir will provide the sacred music.
