Drove taxi without appropriate licence

-

Taxi driver Philip Doyle with an address 4 The Paddocks, Ramsgate admitted operating for reward in a Toyota Avensis which was not licensed for such work.

The matter was investigated by Liam Kavanagh from the National Transport Authority who was on duty in Gorey during May.

He called a mobile number which was advertised locally offering a service between Gorey and Courtown.

Doyle came to pick up the man from the NTA and confirmed that a fare of €10 would be charged.

It turned out that, though the defendant’s taxi credentials were in order, the Avensis was not covered.

His usual vehicle, described in the District Court as the only wheelchair taxi in the area, was off the road at the time.

A fine of €400 was handed down, with an order to pay €300 costs.
