Jackie will explore Bob Dylan, Dylan Thomas and the Beatles

-

The Wexford-based author and journalist Jackie Hayden will deliver a talk in Gorey Library this month about how he discovered the poetry of Dylan Thomas through Bob Dylan and the Beatles.

Titled ‘Dylan, Dylan and Me’, the talk will cover how Jackie came to the poems of Dylan Thomas through his interest in Bob Dylan, who had allegedly expressed his own admiration of Dylan Thomas by adopting the Welsh poet’s name, and through The Beatles on whom both Dylans were a big influence, especially on John Lennon.

During the talk he will reflect in the connections he sees between Dylan

Thomas’ poetry and Bob Dylan’s lyrics in the wake of Bob’s Nobel Prize for Literature.

Jackie has already given the talk in various venues around Ireland, Sweden and Wales, including the RDS in Dublin, Wexford Library, Write by the Sea Festival in Kilmore Quay and at Dylan Thomas’ birth place in Swansea. The talk will take place on Tuesday, November 20, at 7 p.m., in Gorey Library. Admission is free. Jackie is the author of several books, including ‘Love and Theft? Bob Dylan’s Celtic Odyssey’ and ‘A Map of Love – Around Wales with Dylan Thomas’, as well as the best-selling ‘My Boy’ about Irish musician Phil Lynott.
