No joy for McCurtains’ Wexford trio

-

A WEXFORD trio assisting Thomas McCurtains in Sunday’s All-Britain Junior Club hurling championship final in Watford were on the receiving end of a heavy 2-20 to 1-7 defeat to John Mitchels from Birmingham.

The midfield pairing for the losers comprised Dean Corrigan, originally from Shelmaliers, and Ferns St. Aidan’s clubman Seán Murphy, while John Donohoe from Monageer-Boolavogue lined out at left corner-back.

Corrigan, a 25-year-old carpenter, joined the London club in 2011, while Murphy, a 29-year-old electrical engineer and former county Minor, has been with them since 2014.

The most recent Wexford addition to the team’s ranks is Donohoe, a 24-year-old agricultural engineer, who is in his second season wearing the maroon and white of McCurtains.

Murphy scored an early point for his team, but they trailed by 1-9 to 0-6 at half-time and were no match for their strong rivals on the re-start.

The final was played in the Glen Rovers grounds.
