COMMUNITY GAMES EGM

Due to severe lack of numbers at the Community Games AGM, an EGM will be held next Wednesday, November 14, at 8.30 p.m. in Askamore Hall. If parents don’t attend the EGM, there will be no other option but to close the club.

This means that activities like draughts, gymnastics, table quizzes, badminton, soccer, art and handwritin­g will no longer be held in the Kilrush-Askamore area. This would be a huge disappoint­ment to children who love being part of such activities. Please make every effort to attend next Wednesday to ensure that the Community Games in Askamore continues.

MUINTIR NA TÍRE AGM

Askamore/Muintir na Tire annual general meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 13, at 8 p.m. in Askamore Activity Centre. We would encourage all members of the community to attend.

FIRST AID COURSE

The first aid course running in Askamore Activity Centre is well attended and as a number of people have expressed an interest in attending a future course, it has been decided to hold one in the new year, dates still to be decided.

SLEEP-OUT FOR HOMELESS

Well done to Jason Keogh and fundraisin­g team who took part in the ‘sleep out’ at Askamore Community Centre recently. Children from Ballyellis and Ballyroebu­ck schools dressed up for ‘no uniform day’ and a number of events organised by supporters raised a massive €3,875. Well done, everyone.

GOLDEN YEARS PARTY

ARTIST EXHIBITION.

An art exhibition by local artists will run from November 23 to November 25 in Askamore Communty Centre. This eagerly anticipate­d exhibition will display the works of local artists in a variety of mediums – painting, jewelry, sculpture, selting etc. Doors open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday to Sunday. RURAL TRANSPORT

The local link bus leaves Askamore Church car park at 9.30 a.m. every Tuesday morning and 9.45 on Saturday mornings. This is a vital link to Gorey for many people and we would encourage people to use the service as often as possible. Phone Willie – 087 2449167 – for more informatio­n.

KILRUSH-ASKAMORE GAA

There was no winner of the latest lotto draw. The numbers were 1, 4, 6 and 25. Lucky-dip winners were Meave Donnelly, Caroline Breen, James Dunbar and Eoghan Mulholland. Mary Tomkins won the Sellers’ Prize. The next draw will be on Tuesday, November 20, in Peter Doyle’s, Ferns and the jackpot is up to €5,400. €2 tickets are available from club players and members.

This year’s AGM will be held on Sunday, November 25, at 7 p.m. in the clubhouse. Mass for deceased members will be in Askamore on the 24th at 6 p.m.

CARNEW MUSICAL SOCIETY

Just a few more weeks for the cast and crew of Carnew Musical Society to put the polishing touches on their 52nd production, ‘My Fair Lady’ based on Pygmalion by George B Shaw, book and lyrics – Lerner and Loewe. The show will be performed in St Brigid’s Hall, Carnew from Monday, November 26 – Saturday, December 1.Coupled with a great storyline the show includes many favourites including, Wouldn’t it be loverly, I could have danced all night, Get me to the church on time, The Ascot Gavotte, On the Street where you liveand With a little bit of luck to name but a few. The cost of staging musicals is very high and Carnew Musical Society would not be in a position to stage Musicals without the continued support of local businesses and patrons for their sponsorshi­p and patronage. CONGRATULA­TIONS EDMOND

Congratula­tions to Ballyconra­n native Edmond Kenny, who won the Lory Meagher all award for 2018 in the full forward position, having scored one goal and five points in the Lory Meagher final against Sligo Warwickshi­re. The versatile utility player continues to grow in stature winning awards at home and overseas. From being net minder for Askamore winning minor 2003 and intermedia­te 2009 he won a London senior in 2016 at wing forward with St Gabriel’s.

He also won a New south Wales hurling championsh­ip as well as playing football with bondi gaels in NSW Edmond also turned out in Boston in both codes. As the club and parish are immensely proud of this young athlete he truly is one of the greatest ambassador­s the club has produced in the games of the Gael. and hires a male escort to make her husband jealous. As events unfold, a few more colourful characters and a greyhound called Bridget enter the mix to leave the audiences rolling in their seats with laughter.

The cast includes Maria McCann, Margaret Nolan, Pat Berney, Ger Doran, Paula Darcy, Séamus Burnell, Patrick Lennon and Hannah Doyle and is directed by Brendan Doyle. The play.
