Festive fun in Kilmuckridge!
Santa took some time out of his busy schedule to visit the kids of Kilmuckridge who were gathered in the village to see the Christmas lights being turned on.
Three lucky children – Sean O’Brien, Zara Cox and Elsie Brady, did the honours of switching on the lights in front of Santa after their names were pulled out from a hat.
More than 100 people braved the cold in the centre of the village as they watched the kids do the all-important flip of the switch. The wait was made much easier thanks to the mulled wine and mince pies for the adults, while the kids all received a goodie bag.
Cllr Mary Farrell was the MC for the evening and entertainment was provided by Kilmuckridge’s Ukulele Group – a new group that has arrived to the musical scene.
Santa arrived in a gorgeous sleigh, which was pulled by Bart the horse/reindeer.
After switching on the lights, the kids received a huge round of applause and were presented with a delicious chocolate hamper by the Christmas lights committee.
Organising the event wasn’t easy as it involved dozens of volunteers, several hours of work and thousands upon thousands LED lights. Cllr Farrell said she would like to thank the committee; local businesses; sponsors; and to those who attended.
