Roger leads field as good break pays off in A5 Stake decider
THE GLENBRIEN Kennels A5 Stake final was the feature attraction on last Thursday night’s card at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track, sponsored by Kathleen Stamp of Glenbrien.
Rogers Girl, owned by Lisa Murphy from Enniscorthy, led to the first bend, with the sponsor’s dog, Glenbrien Myway, in close attention off the second bend before Rogers asserted to stretch the lead off the last bend.
The unlucky in running Pitstop Jet put in a powerful late run to the line to grab second spot, only a length and a half behind the hat-trick seeking winner Rogers Girl who made her good break pay in a time of 29.62 -40 slow.
On Monday night of last week, the Roban Financial unraced second round was completed, and the Seamus Whelan-owned Piercestown Mile was an impressive winner of heat one in the fastest time of the second round.
After racing home a wide margin winner in a fast 29.27 -40 slow, the victor will be a leading player in this week’s semi-finals.
