Musicians sought to support top acts

Wexford Arts Centre has issued an open call for new and upcoming Wexford based music artists across all genres to apply to be part of its second PwC Spotlight programme for 2019.

A selection of artists will be chosen to be part of the Spotlight panel which will be profiled on the centre’s website and matched to support incoming touring artists in Wexford Arts Centre performanc­es in the county next year.

Spotlight artists will also feature in a showcase concert and will receive additional mentoring support. They will also be paid a support act and performanc­e fee.

The 2018 participan­ts included Megan Kate Doolan, Karen Alice Dunbar, Alice Lynskey and Stone Blind State. Among the touring acts that they supported were The Lost Brothers with Steve Wickham, Paddy Casey, The 4 of Us, Larry Kirwan, Radiant Aracadia, Wells House Little Festival in the Big House and Carole Nelson.

During the year, they were mentored by the renowned music expert, biographer, author and former Hot Press General Manager Jackie Hayden.

2019 marks the Wexford Arts Centre’s 45th anniversar­y, making it Ireland’s oldest regional arts centre.
