Meals on Wheels has gone to the dogs

Gorey Guardian - - NEWS -

The Gorey and Courtown Meals On Wheels Service has gone to the dogs quite literally.

Along with the usual dinners and treats distributed to people in the run up to Christmas, they also handed out boxes of dog treats to the four legged companions of the service recipients.

The canine treats were donated to the service from the local animal welfare group, the North Wexford Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Meals on Wheels is about helping seniors stay in their home, live a high quality of life and being able to keep their beloved pets at home with them is an important part of that quality of life.

A spokesperson from the Meals On Wheels service said approximately a quarter of the people receiving meals in North Wexford have at least one pet. Having the companionship of an animal can be essential, especially when a dog might be the companion they love the most.

Some service recipients will gladly sacrifice a full belly to make sure their animal has one. With the kind donation given by the North Wexford SPCA, at least for the Christmas week, they’re able to help relieve some of the burden on the clients who love and care their companion pets so deeply. The service knows once the companion pets are happy, the owners are happy. A massive thanks was expressed to the NWSPCA.
