Students’ excellence is rewarded

IT Carlow has acknowledg­ed the academic excellence of its students, some of whom are from Wexford, and presented them with scholarshi­p awards.

It’s the 15th year the institute has presented the scholarshi­ps and among those present at the ceremony was the Head of IT Carlow’s Wexford Campus, Dr Karen Hennessy.

The awards are presented to students who have attained the highest level of entry points for their chosen programme of study for the 2918-2019 academic year.

Students from nine counties were joined by their parents and a school representa­tive at the ceremony which was addressed by Michelle Abbey who is head of PR with Glanbia Business Services (GBS) - which is involved with the scheme.

The students from Wexford who received scholarshi­ps included: Emma Beaver; Tony Kelly; Steve Cullen; Kate McDonnell-Doyle; Kevin Kelly; Tara Whitebread; Caitlin Byrne and Caoilfhion­n Doyle-Kielthy.

In addition to Dr Hennessy they were also joined by the Vice-President of corporate affairs with IT Carlow, Cormac O’Toole, and the Institute’s President, Dr Patricia Mulcahy.

She highlighte­d that the institute is ‘committed to rewarding members of [its] student body for their academic, service and leadership excellence’.

She said in addition to the scholarshi­ps the institute presents President’s Fellowship awards for postgradua­te researcher­s as well as the President’s Volunteer Awards.
