Beauty student bit Garda in thigh on way to cells
A TEENAGE beauty therapy student pleaded guilty to biting a garda who was bringing her to a cell after arrest for a public order offence.
Ciara Cole, (19) from 64 The Green, Clonard Village arrived at Wexford garda station on January 14 in a highly intoxicated condition.
The District Court heard how she lay down on the ground and refused to cooperate, while being highly abusive.
Garda Nikita Guidera received a bite on the inner thigh as the unruly prisoner was being brought to the cells.
Defending solicitor Ed King told Judge Gerard Haughton that his client had no recollection of the night in question.
He accepted that the assault which left a mark on Garda Guidera’s skin was very difficult for the injured party.
However, Mr King suggested that Ms Cole was most unlikely to re-offend.
The judge decided to offer an opportunity to avoid an assault conviction.
She was told to come up with €750 compensation for the garda by the court sitting of May 7.
If the money is forthcoming, then the Probation Act will be applied.
Otherwise, the conviction will go on her record, with a fine of €400.
